Camp Fitch Coloring Contest

Camp Fitch Patch Design Contest

The winning patch has been selected! M.Ryant of the Shawnee tribe was the big winner.

The Crooked River Longhouse is having a patch design contest for Camp Fitch. It is your job to color the best patch using the patch design provided on the last page of this Smokes!

The winner will be awarded a special award for creating the winning patch. See the rules below.

Don’t forget to use the blank patch design on the last page of this document. The blank patch canvas can also be downloaded at http://www.crookedriver.org/camp-fitch-patch.jpg

Rules:
1. Open to all active children in the longhouse.
2. Color the patch design using crayons, markers, pencils, or paints.
3. Include the following information on the back of the completed artwork: Child's First and Last Name, Parents First and Last Name, Tribe Name, and Age.
4. Completed artwork will be collected at various longhouse events and longhouse meetings and must be turned in by the January Longhouse meeting.
5. At the January Longhouse meeting the officers will vote on all artwork and select the winner of the patch design contest for Camp Fitch.
6. All artwork will be on display at Camp Fitch.
7. To keep the process fair, please only submit one completed artwork for each child.
8. All children will receive a small award for participating in the contest.
9. A special award will be given to the winning child.

Tentative Schedule 2011/2012

CrookedRiver members - Below is the first DRAFT of the 2011 / 2012 Longhouse Event schedule. As we start planning for next year, we wanted to develop a schedule that includes some new events (Underground Cavern Exploration anyone?) as well as our annual favorites like Mini Car races and Fall Festival. We've also tried to mix in some new locations, or locations we haven't visited recently.

The Longhouse Officers want to hear everyone's feedback on the schedule ideas. We would love to hear from the members so we can make any changes / adjustments people think will improve the Longhouse Event list.

The schedule will be our main topic at this Monday's Longhouse meeting @ Buffalo Wild Wings in Strongsville OH (7pm Monday 8/1/11). All Longhouse members are invited to attend and the Longhouse will be providing wings & soft drinks.

Do you have feedback about your experience this year that is not related to the schedule? Attend the meeting and we can talk about that!

We know many Officers and Chiefs often attend meetings on behalf of your tribes, but the meetings are always open to all Longhouse members and we would love to hear input from all members about what we can do better in 2011 / 2012 (schedule or otherwise). We certainly hope to see you there.

P.S. Remember, the schedule is just a draft, and may undergo a few changes in the next week or two. A new schedule will be published in August with any revisions necessary.

Email To All Members - New Event Signup System

Here is a copy of the email you should have received concerning the new Circle Bridge event signup system.

Dear <Member Name>,

I am pleased to announce that effective immediately, Crooked River will be using a new online registration system. This system was built (by CircleBridge.com) specifically to support programs just like ours. I think you'll find that the features and ease of use are a better fit for our program than the registration system we have been using (Club Express). An additional benefit of using CircleBridge is a more secure online payment process via PayPal.

We've loaded as much information from Club Express as we could.

The first time you log in, you'll have a little house keeping to do:
1.) If you're missing family members, you can add them by clicking the 'Add' button.
2.) In the Family section, Click on the underlined names of each of your family members and fill in any missing information.
3.) Click the 'Update' button to change your family's login and/or password.
4.) Click the 'Join' button and search for your tribe. Note that if you're in multiple tribes, you can do this process more than once.
5.) If you are a Tribal Chief or Assistant Chief, please use 'Join' and join the 'Tribal Chiefs and Assistants' tribe.
6.) If you are a Longhouse Officer, please use 'Join' and join the 'Longhouse Officers' tribe.

New Registration System

As of January 30th, 2011, we are phasing out the Club Express Event Registration system and replacing it with the system from Circle Bridge. An email is being sent to all Crooked River Longhouse Members detailing the switch over. If you have any questions surrounding this switch over, please contact an officer of the Longhouse.

Come test your racing skills at the Crooked River Longhouse Mini-Car races!

Preliminary Patch Contest

To lead up to race day, the Crooked River Local Longhouse is sponsoring a patch coloring contest. The winning design will be chosen by Longhouse Officers and the design will be used to create the patch used for the Mini-Car Event held in April.

Please use the mini-car coloring template found on the last page of the smokes for all coloring designs submitted for the contest. You can also download the image by clicking here.

Official Rules

1) Have the kids color/design the attached race car template found at the end of the smokes.

2) Bring the completed artwork to the February or March longhouse meeting. Final designs can also be emailed to Mike Ivan at Mike.Ivan@CrookedRiver.org.

3) Officers will vote on all of the entries and the patch will be created using the winning design. Good luck!

Have an idea for a Crooked River Native Sons & Daughters event?

Is there an event or place you would like to be considered for a Crooked River, Native Sons & Daughters upcoming adventure? You can submit your idea by attending our monthly meeting, held at Buffalo Wild Wings in Strongsville. The monthly meetings are usually scheduled for the 1st Monday of the month and the meeting starts at 7pm. Watch the Crooked River upcoming adventures for details.

Not able to attend the meeting but would still like to tell someone your idea? If so, please email the smokes chief at smokeschief@crookedriver.org.

Even though our open houses are completed, you can can still join Crooked River Native Sons & Daughters. Join at anytime during the year.

Can you be an officer? We need officers for 2011!

Do you have time to assist Crooked River Local Longhouse? We are in need of officers for 2011. Some of our officers have children that are graduating out of our longhouse and we need to replenish our volunteers with good people.

Being an officer doesn't take that much time! Attending the montly meeting will be the biggest time commitment. After that, there will be times where your commitment may be assisting at an event or making a few phone calls to organize an upcoming adventure.

We need your help in order to keep this fun organization going!

As you know, our membership season to recruit new members starts this fall. If you are able to attend any of our school open houses during the fall, please consider it. We will be letting everyone know how to sign up.
